| New mail scam hits the Ozarks
A new scam has made its way to the Ozarks through your mail. With promises of winning $38,000, these con artists claiming to be from Enterprise Rent-A-Car are ready to take you for a ride. One woman wasn't fooled by this scam and now she wants others to know bit. It started as a normal Saturday for Peggy Cunningham. "I went to the mailbox and saw this letter from Toronto, Ontario," Cunningham said. Inside were two checks, one for almost $38,000 and a cashiers check for $3,800. "Both had been run through a check protector and the signature was a stamp, which a lot of times businesses do use," said Cunningham. The former banker grew curious. Search for Soldier's Missing Fiancee Takes Bizarre Turns
Raeford, N.C. — Authorities launched a massive search after a Fort Bragg soldier said his fiancee had crashed in Hoke County. Investigators, however, are not sure that the missing woman was ever in North Carolina – or of her true identity. Capt. John Kivett, with the Hoke County Sheriff's Office, thought he had a real emergency on his hands Tuesday: A 29-year-old woman, stunned from a car crash, wandering through the woods. "She was crying. She was screaming at some points," Kivett said. "She told me she was cold. She wanted help." Spec. Randall Dabbs, 29, believed his fiancee – a woman was identified as Jollyn Sue Silver – was driving an Enterprise rental car from her hometown of Gresham, Ore., to welcome him back from Iraq. When Silver called him in a panic, Dabbs went to the sheriff's department.
VeraSun, Enterprise team up on ethanol
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Enterprise Rent-A-Car and VeraSun Energy Corp. have announced that a Sioux Falls rental car branch will rent vehicles that run on a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. St. Louis-based Enterprise has launched similar branches in Washington, Cincinnati and other parts of the country. The Taylor family of companies, which includes Enterprise, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car, rents some 73,000 flexible fuel cars and trucks which can run on E85 or standard unleaded gasoline. Brookings-based VeraSun is one of the nation's top ethanol producers. The companies are holding an inaugural fueling of the new fleet on Monday. .
Rental Cars Won't Need Transponders to Travel Through Sunpass Lanes
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 27 -- Many rental car customers traveling on Florida's toll roads and bridges are now able to utilize 'SunPass Only' lanes to pay their tolls, even without a SunPass transponder, thanks to a pair of innovative programs announced by Turnpike officials this week. Rental car customers in Central Florida also can use the EPass lanes on toll roads operated by the Orlando- Orange County Expressway Authority (OOCEA), and will soon be able to use the LeeWay toll lanes in Lee County. Florida's Turnpike Enterprise has entered into contractual agreements with American Traffic Solutions and Rent A Toll, Ltd. to administer a program which utilizes license plate information to identify rental vehicles and electronically collect the toll. American Traffic Solutions is currently offering its PlatePass(R) cashless toll payment service to rental car customers using vehicles rented from Avis, Budget, and Hertz.
