Not your average student-athlete

Their brief story was supposed to end here, with Johnson presumably finding another instructor at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz. and Prudomme beginning to assemble his first team at Grand Canyon University, yet somehow Johnson's insistence on having Prudhomme as her instructor and his need to recruit the best tennis players in the area led them back to each other.

It was a math problem that even Johnson wasn't sure that she could solve.

"There was obviously a huge age difference, I hadn't played competitively in 30 years and was out of college for just as long," says Johnson, who graduated from Arizona State with a master's degree in secondary education. "I wasn't sure if I could go back but I thought it would be fun find out."

If Prudhomme had been hired at any other time by any other school, Johnson would likely be serving volleys with her fellow retirees at the tennis club, but he was hired by Grand Canyon, an NCAA Division II program that had gone winless the previous season, a month before the school year started.

Vote on Fairfax School Zones Splits Neighbors

Like many fastidious school shoppers, Carly Mannava planned ahead. She bought a map of Fairfax County high school attendance zones, combed through data on the Internet and pushed her twin sons, Vijay and Vikram, in a stroller around campuses to envision where the toddlers would someday become college-bound scholars.

Mickey Kaus has a really interesting piece today on Slate about the one thing Obama might be able to do to not be the black candidate anymore.

Here‘s part of what he said.

“Obama has already made noises about shifting to a class-based, race-blind system of preferences. What is he made that explicit? Wouldn‘t that shock hostile white voters into taking a second look at his candidacy? He‘d renew his image as a trans-race leader. The howls of criticism from the conventional civil rights establishment would provide him with an army of (INAUDIBLE) soldiers to fight against. If anyone noticed Hillary in the ensuing fuss, it would be to put her on the spot."

What do you think of that?

M. CARLSON: Well, the good thing is that Obama already feels the way that Mickey says would be advantageous to him.

That pass was thrown with best intentions - just wrong execution

You have to understand where your chasers are, you need to have created space. So, did we have the right opportunities? A lot of the time on Saturday the answer was no.

One of the pitfalls in coaching is people who come in and demand the final result without understanding the processes. Undoubtedly, when I watch the tape, I will see chances where I could have kicked for territory. When I didn't, though, it was because the processes weren't right.

You might ask: why didn't you do this or that? Or kick for territory? We're not stupid, we know what we want to happen, it's just trying to make it happen. One massive kick just doesn't do it any more - it's not that simple.

In order to control the game, you need to be able to influence it and in the second half we just had very little influence.

Renewable Energy Tax Package Will Save Consumers Money, Boost Economy ...

With energy prices soaring, passing these incentives is just common sense and key for any credible energy policy."

Steven Nadel, executive director of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), also pointed out that an ACEEE analysis found that extending the energy efficiency provisions would add roughly 15,000 jobs to the U.S. economy, considering both added jobs in the energy efficiency and service industries and lost jobs in the traditional energy industries.

Members of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) also see major benefits to extending the incentives. "These energy tax credits encourage the construction of 'green' buildings and the use of solar technology, all practices engaged in by RILA member companies," said Lori Denham, RILA executive vice president for government affairs and industry operations.

Adventure playgrounds for Bolton

We have already consulted with residents as to what they want and plans to improve play facilities in the area are already underway.

"This programme will benefit all communities in Bolton by creating safe areas in which children can play as well providing modern equipment."

The Government wants to create 3,500 public play areas. It wants facilities to include staffed adventure playgrounds, with indoor and outdoor facilities.

The council says it is hopeing to receive the larger sum of money, given the work they are already doing to improve play facilities in the area.

Last year Town Hall chiefs were awarded £2.9 million to revamp existing play areas.

Chiefs also pledged to spend £630,000 on the creation of eight new playgrounds in Brownlow Fold, Ulleswater Street, Thomasson Park, Musgrave Road and Darbishire Park in the Halliwell and Crompton areas, and in Fern Street, Farnworth Central Park, and Harper Green, in Farnworth.
